The introduction of masks in the US has been hectic. A number of people decide not to wear masks, protesting that masks "violate their rights" and they "can't breath in the thing". ( I went to Sam's the other day and the man a couple of people in front started yelling at the worker letting customers in because the worker pointed out that the man had to wear a mask.)
So the real question is...why should you wear a mask?
Masks help prevent the spread of COVID19! In fact, an experiment using a high-speed video found that hundreds of droplets were generated when someone says even one word. But nearly all these droplets get blocked when the mouth is covered either by a mask or a face covering.
Furthermore, a study in Health Affairs compared COVID19 compared COVID19 growth before and after mask were mandated in 15 states. They found that with the mask mandate, COVID19 rates slowed down.
So.. are you protecting yourself by wearing a mask or others?
You're doing both! By wearing a mask, you're protecting other people from getting COVID19 if you have it. If other people wear a mask, they're protecting you!
Remember to always wear a face-covering before going out!
